What are perforation patterns?

Perforation patterns describe the shape, size and arrangement of the openings in perforated metal. These include, among other things, the hole shape, hole size, pitch, web width, open area and the orientation of the perforation. What do perforation pattern designations such as Rv, Rg, Qg or Hv mean?

These abbreviations describe the hole shape and arrangement. In Rv, “R” stands for round perforation and “v” for staggered rows. Rg means round perforation in straight rows, Rd round perforation in diagonally staggered rows, Qg square perforation in straight rows, Lg slotted perforation in straight rows, Lv slotted perforation in staggered rows and Hv hexagonal perforation in staggered rows.
